Critical Hitbox Course of Fire (CHCOF)
Free, downloadable PDFs are available at the bottom of the page.
Is it a rigorous shooting test? An everyday plinking target? A precise sight-in sheet?
Why not all three?
Why not all three?
GunTweaks presents the Critical Hitbox Course of Fire (CHCOF), a challenging shooting drill that provides practical feedback on your real-world shooting competency at 75, 150, and 300 yards.
Additionally, the CHCOF can function as a low-cost, general-purpose target sheet. We use the CHCOF targets every time we go to the range; zeroing a rifle at 100 meters, 10 meter double taps with a pistol, shotgun patterning, the various sizes of CHCOF target work for it all. Each triangular target offers four aiming points; the triangle itself is one large target, and all three corners act as additional pinpoint targets.
Speaking of which, the three pinpoint targets at each corner are superb for zeroing, sight-ins, and tests of ultimate accuracy. Focusing your eye and aim on the fine point of the triangle will often yield better consistency than aiming for the vague center of a target.
As a final perk, the triangular CHCOF target is not threatening to the gun-uninformed. Avoid the wide-eyed gaze from bystanders as you walk carrying human silhouettes riddled with bullet holes, and opt for the CHCOF instead.

About the Critical Hitbox Course of Fire (CHCOF)
The CHCOF targets are handy for any type of shooting, but the CHCOF's original function is measuring practical shooting ability through a fast and accessible shooting test. Based on the proven ‘1,000 inch range’ concept, the CHCOF allows the shooter to hone their fundamentals without needing a range longer than 25 meters.
Test your skill by attempting to complete all three stages. A rifle sling is allowed, but no bipods or shooting rests are permitted; just you and your rifle. A semi-automatic rifle feeding from detachable magazines is recommended, and any optic or sight is permitted. Each attempt at the CHCOF requires a only a single 20-round box of ammunition, and success requires landing 18 hits out of 20 shots fired; a 90% hit probability. The rules are simple: if your shot lands inside the triangle, you hit the target. If your shot lands outside (or partially outside) the triangle, you missed the target.
If you are able to complete the course, have a friend sign the witness signature block and you're ready to start bragging.

The CHCOF is a challenging drill, representative of a hit in a critical area or a hit on a target that is partially behind cover.
Do not be discouraged if you are unable to complete it on your first try.
